Limerick’s largest family & agricultural festival returns to Limerick Racecourse on Sunday August 25th
Up to 8,000 visitors, 1,000 competitors and 150 trade exhibitors will descend on Limerick Racecourse to experiencea unique event which aims to bring the people of Limerick City and County together.A new addition to the show this year is the Limerick Show Food Village. The Food Village will showcase the verybest of local produce and is sure to be a feast for the senses. Discover your inner foodie by exploring the delights onoffer including gourmet sausages, grilled meats, artisan cheese, handmade chocolates and more.
Chairman of the Limerick Show and Deputy President of the IFA, Richard Kennedy explains the importance of the bond between Farmers and Foodies. “Limerick Show has always been about showcasing the very best of Limerick and the surrounding areas. This year, we’re delighted to shine a spotlight on local food producers, many of whom use locally sourced ingredients from the farming community. The link between farmers and food producers is a very important one that should be nurture,.”
Limerick Show is renowned for showcasing the best of Irish horse breeding. This year is no exception as one of thespecial features is a Festival of Irish Breeding presented by the Traditional Irish Horse Association. This incorporatesthe famous Limerick Lady and Matron Championships. The TIHA Hunter Equitation class makes a return this year.This is aimed at encouraging a higher standard of production of traditionally-bred horses aged five and upwards.In addition to the diverse agricultural programme, there are lots of new family-friendly additions to the show-absolutely free! The infamous Kids Zone makes a welcome return with free kids entertainment including bouncycastles, face painting, juggling workshops and an animal farm. If the little ones get tired they can hop on the kiddiestrain and catch a lift around the show grounds. Kids under 12 get free entry to the show so there really is no excuse toleave the kids at home!
The family Dog Show is always a star attractions on the day kicking off at 1pm. Visitors can shop to their heartscontent at the indoor and outdoor retail village, artisan food stalls, farm machinery and more. There will be a range of music and dance attractions on the day. Other attractions include Show Jumping, Sheep, Goats, Poultry, Craft, Art, Photography, Baking classes and Horticulture exhibits.
Limerick City and County are being represented by Heritage, Culture, and Tourism. We have West Limerick Heritage Society, West Limerick Tourism, Ballyhoura, Lough Gur and the Hunt Museum. We have a number of people coming dressed in Medieval costume. There is also a Business Hub and a Parade by the CBS Pipe Band. Music Generation are performing and Sean O’Dowd will play live together with a Jiving Competition.
